Prayer for Healing 
in the Aftermath of September 11th

Blessed Spirit of Peace and Healing, you know the destruction that has befallen our country. Now we see through your eyes the treasure of your place in our common life. As the circle of unrealized safety and protection lies shattered, we understand how much we love and belong to each other - as citizens, as families, as friends, and as lovers. Help draw our hearts into the burning truth that lies before us; the knowledge, suddenly, of how many unseen and unacknowledged gifts of love have encircled our daily lives. In the shadow of pain, violence, and irrevocable loss, show us that our worth to one other is immeasurable, that our lives are sacred. 

Beloved Spirit of Peace and Healing, the pillar of tragedy's fire lights the way. May it illuminate us and give us wisdom. May it help us to see that hatred only begets hatred. May we find ways to act with love, with faith in the beauty of our common humanity. May our leaders everywhere be blessed and guided. Inspire in them the choice to protect, heal, and unify our global community.
We bless and thank you, Holy One, and draw the fragrance of eternal peace and healing into our hearts. Amen.
